PROPOSED
TRAVELLERS SITE
IN OR NEAR CRANFIELD
This
Action Group was formed
to oppose the location of a
travellers site in or near Cranfield in Bedfordshire.
This
campaign has been
very
successful as Cranfield is not
now on the list of sites currently being considered.

As
soon as Jim Shepherd, a Cranfield resident for 40 years, heard
that Central
Bedfordshire Council was having a ‘behind
closed doors’ discussion
about two proposed Travellers sites in Cranfield he formed a protest
group 'Cranfield Against Travellers Site' to oppose the plan.
This group has now been re-named CRANFIELD RATEPAYERS
ACTION GROUP (CRAG) to give it a wider remit.
The
two sites under discussion were the Millennium Park on Lodge
Road and a site adjoining the Technology Park in Moulsoe Road.
Jim and helpers soon delivered a letter to virtually
every house in the village. This has produced a large response with
many offers to help in the campaign.
Then
a letter of protest was devised and many residents have send it
to a number of influential Councillors.
Further
details on our News page.
Here
are just some of the comments that were received:-
“Frankly,
I am horrified that the council is now considering converting
the Millennium Park site to a permanent traveller site.
Quite apart from the effect to the local residents in close proximity
to the site the whole village will be affected.”
"It
seems that the local council really have it in for Cranfield"
"Well
done for bringing this to Cranfield's attention"
".
.shocking and disturbing news . . .I would rather abandon my
home . . "
"do
the developers [Persimmon] know they may have to sell homes with
travellers on their doorstep?"
"outraged
by the proposal"
"I
am sure that we (family of 4) would move if this happens"
